Pacesetter Diaries Priyanka Dsouza

When it comes to succeeding, there is no particular road map, all you need to do is follow your dreams and have faith in your decisions. This is exactly what Priyanka Dsouza, self employed professional and IT consultant, did right from the initial stages of her career.

Priyanka began her career at a young age of 18; she left home as she had a streak in her to be a self made person. “From 6 to 12 I used to be in college and from 1 to night 10 I used to work in a Xerox company. So I started my career when I was 18, I didn’t believe in taking money from anyone, I worked on my own and now it has been 15 to 16 years me working in the industry, so more than anything I chose to have a tough life. I didn’t want to have the easy way. I wanted to be proud of my achievements.” she stated as we admired her guts and daring to defy all odds.

She believes in defying gender stereotypes and states that women need to have identities of their own. Although there is always a over looming shadow of a male presence in their lives, women should create an identity for themselves, that is the identity they can fall back on in tough times and draw strength from in times of need.

On being questioned about how she managed to balance between her work and personal life, she stated,” First of all at 18, being in the corporate world was very tough. There needs to be a switch on-switch off mechanism in your brain. When I am at work, I forget about my family and give my heart and soul to the job. Once I leave work I concentrate at home. Getting your priorities right, that’s the main thing.”

Priyanka also dwelled upon the biggest lessons she has learnt in her career span, “I think the biggest lesson would be you know I think for any woman, she has to believe in her ideas and she has to have the passion to pursue it. To achieve something in life, you need to undertake some amount of risk. Secondly, do not let negativity impact your ideas or any other person pull you down. Third is to put your heart and soul into the job you undertake, success will automatically follow.” As we wrapped our head around this valuable information, she stated,”The fourth main thing would be that success doesn’t correspond to money alone. Not everything is about money, right? Everything at the end of the day is about what you’ve achieved. So success doesn’t relate to money.”

She doesn’t believe in putting an age limit to success. According to her, everyday is a learning experience, every role a women faces is a different challenge be it of a daughter, a mother, a sister or a wife. Every woman needs to learn how to face her own battle and stand up for her rights.

On being asked for a piece of advice to every woman out there looking to take the first step towards achieving her dreams she encouragingly stated, “The main thing is you should pursue your dream with all your might. Before you close your eyes at the end of the day, you should feel, yes, I’ve done something today. Life is really short and you shouldn’t wait another day. Take risks, go against the odds, and go against the conventional way of career if your dreams demand it. Just pursue your dream with all your might and heart.”

Her inspiring journey leaves us with a sense of awe and a tinge of pride as we see womankind being represented by such a dynamic personality. We genuinely hope her story motivates you take charge of your life and work towards your decisions as an individual.
